Finances Part I - Trying To Live Free

Finances Part I - Trying To Live Free

Finances Part I - Trying To Live Free

Last week I kind of drew out a plan for how I am going to try to live free. This week I am going to put out there what my expenses are going to be. Or at least what I think they will be. Then in part II I will tell you how I think I will pay for all this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this all works.

So I have a spreadsheet on my budget showing what money I bring in and what bills I have to pay. It's pretty extensive but that will hopefully all change once I try to live free. I don't see me having many expenses at that time. I will just make a list with what it is and how much I think it will cost per month. Here is what I came up with:
  • Car Insurance: $50
  • Car Gas: $80
  • Cell Phone: $50
  • Amazon Prime: $15
  • Netflix: $15
  • Taxes on Land: $30
  • Food: $200
  • Misc: $200
  • Total Monthly: $640

That is it. About $640 a month I will need to make in order to try to live free. Now I know I can go without some of these things. But I want to have some things to keep me busy in case of bad weather and stuff. So if I was to retire this would be no big deal as I know I would make this much, even more, to take care of these expenses. But I will have about 10 years or so where I won't be able to officially retire so I will have to make this money somehow.

I did forget about a couple of things that I do not know how much they cost but was brought to my attention by someone who read my previous blog post and I will have to look into it and see what I can do. Those two things are health insurance and insurance for the land. I will have to do a revised post to let you know what I came up with.

I have the Misc. of about $200 a month and that would go for heat and maybe eating out once in a while. Either firewood or propane. I think propane would be cheaper to use per year than buying cords or wood. Plus I am going to use propane for a number of things in my house so I will have a lot of it.

I will not have internet but I will have a cell phone that I can watch Netflix on so that will be my entertainment. Plus reading books on my tablet.

One thing that is not on the list is something that I will have to pay off before I do any of this. I have student loans. I am not sure in total how much I have left but if I was conservative, I would say about $20k left. I pay about $250 a month for that. I do not want to have that hanging over my head so I will have to make double payments or something as soon as I can.

I know I am missing some things that are not included on this list so if you think of anything I missed please let me know in the comment section. This is all a work in progress and since this is a long term plan I have the luxury of messing up know, learning from it, and fixing what needs to be fixed before I am trying to live free.

In part II I will talk about how I am going to pay for these things.
