My Eight Year Plan - Trying To Live Free
So right now I have stages to my plan. I am basically going by years and what I need to accomplish every year until I am able to live free. That is why I call all of this trying to live free.
I am currently in year one of my journey. Right now I am in the mostly spending faze. I am buying all the things I think I will need, except for land and a living space. If I do it right I will have everything bought in the next year and I can start on phase two.
Phase two starts with paying off my credit cards and not using them. In August, I have one year left on my lease for my car and once I pay that off, I want to get a truck or SUV and pay cash for most of it so I don't have a lengthy loan and payment. To make sure my credit is as good as can be I need to pay off the credit cards and save up as much as I can in order to do so. I will do this and still be buying the things I need as well.
Once I have that taken care of then I can start to think about buying land. I am going to go cheap and first think about just buying an acre of land. I see all the time they have deals for $200 down and $200 a month for 3 years I can buy land. Unless my financial situation changes by this time I am going to stick with that.
Once I have the land I can start to stay there. On weekends and vacation time and stuff. I need a place to stay while I am there. I might start just camping in a tent there at first. Then just kind of wait and see if I can get a camper for cheap and park it on the property and live in that part time while I wait to pay off the land and camper. Also, since this will be all off grid, I don't need much. I will have no electricity, but I will need a wood burning stove and a water pump to get water. I will already have both since I will be purchasing all the things I need to live there.
After all of this I will be in year 5 of my journey and at this point I am in a pretty good place. I should have everything taken care of as far as what is needed. I only will have to decide then what is my permanent living arrangement going to be. Is it going to be the camper or is it going to be a cabin? This I will decide in year 7 when my youngest child turns 18 and I can then decide on the financial part of living free.
I think I will cover the financial part more in detail next week in a new blog post. Now I am not foolish to think this will all go according to plan. But I do think that the way I am going about this is going to work. I have a plan, its a long term plan, and has so much room for things to go wrong so when they do, I can handle it and keep going with my plan on trying to live free.
