Trying To Live Free- Cutting the Cord
When I say cutting the cord, I mean getting rid of your cable. It is a huge expense and one that is not really needed. I used to pay around $250 a month with my cable and internet. I got tired of it, plus I couldn't afford it.
First thing is I have children. So I was nervous they were going to have a fit if I got rid of the cable but I had to do it and they understood. I kept the internet though, and they were still able to play games online and watch youtube videos. I got a cheap antenna and got the local channels and went from there.
So now I went down from $250 to $50 for just the internet. But I couldn't take it. So I decided to get a Netflix account and a Hulu Plus account. At that time they were both about $7.99 each and it wasn't that big of an expense. It was still cheaper than what I was paying.
So now I am at about $66 a month. Which is not too bad. But then Netflix raised their prices and so it went up to $13.99. Which now brings my total to about $72 a month.
So my situation changed and I was now back with my family and they didn't want to go cable free. So I found a solution that would work for us both. I have a Playstation 4 and they have a streaming service called Playstation Vue. They have different packages depending on the amount of channels you want. I chose the $39.99 package.
I kept all of these services and now was paying about $112 a month. Still cheaper than having cable but it was getting a little pricey. So now I was going to make some more changes.
After about a year I noticed that I wasn't watching too much TV on the Playstation Vue. So I decided to get rid of it. No one else in the family watched it either so I was good to go. Back down to $72 a month.
Then last year around Christmas time I saw that amazon had a tablet that was on sale for $30 and that was too good of a deal to pass up. I have been wanting one to read books on because my phone was too small for me to read. I also found out about Amazon prime. With that I could get free books, free 2 day shipping and a bunch of TV and movies to watch for free.
There we go! I got it. The monthly price was $13.99 and now I am up to $86 a month. I think I am going to keep this set up. I am saving so much money and getting discounts on things I buy on Amazon that I am saving money all over the place.
Another reason I like having these streaming services is that I can watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it. That way I don't miss anything and I can binge watch my shows on the weekends which I love to do. Also, this is a great way to still have something to watch when I am trying to live free. Amazon and Netflix both have shows you can download if you don't have internet so that works out good for me when I decide to get rid of the internet. I can just go somewhere that has free wifi and download all my shows I want to watch.
So there you have it. That is how I saved $164 a month. And I still have tons of TV to watch. Below is a list of links to get everything I talked about in the article.
Thanks.

I have done something similar to this. Cable is getting way out of hand.
