Trying To Live Free - Tea Light Heater
When I first started trying to live free I was looking for things to do that were kind of easy and not too hard to do. I am not very mechanically inclined so I wanted to start off with things that I could complete with no problems. One project I found was a tea light heater.
I came across it on the internet while looking up off grid heating. Now I found a ton of websites talking about this and some said that it heated up a small room. I was skeptical at first so I thought why not try it.
I couldn't find the original website or youtube video so I will share what I found today. A website I found that kind of uses the same principals I did is here: Tea Light Heater
Here is the youtube video:
Supplies:
- 1 medium clay pot
- 4 tea light candles
- 4 4x4 bricks
Thats all that I needed to complete the project. All you do is stack up the 4 bricks to make like a surrounding area to keep the heat it. Then just put the 4 tea light candles inside the bricks and then just put the clay pot on top of the structure.
Here is a picture of my final project:
Here is the finished product. It took a while to heat up but once it did heat up, I put my hand over the top of the clay pot and could barely hold my hand there for more that a few seconds without it burning my hand. So it does produce some heat. But I originally put it in my garage, and it was winter time, and left it for about an hour and it did not heat up the garage. So I would say this is for a small room, like a bathroom or a closet. It does work to heat up those rooms so I guess this works but only in an emergency and in a small room.
So there you have it. The whole project probably cost me about $10. So it was cheap and easy to create and it works too.
